Aberystwyth to Carmarthen
Hi All,
Another interesting episode from the Channel 4 series "Abandoned Railways from Above" which may be to Roger's liking!
Although the Gwili Steam Railway uses part of the trackbed, there was an implication that the whole route MIGHT be reinstated!
You should be able to catch up with the series up to now (4 parts of 6) at : https://www.channel4.com/programmes/abandoned-railways-from-above/on-demand/76430-001
Cheers,
Ged

Thanks Ged. That ties in nicely with my recent purchase of the Cambrian 2 route from 3dttrainstuff !

Hi Nick,
You raised a problem which, I don't think, should be discussed in this thread!
I have sent you a PM with the solution.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Aberystwyth to Carmarthen
There has been discussion for years about reopening the Manchester & Milford, but I really don't think it will ever happen. It misses many of the towns on the coast though I goes through Lampeter and Tregaron. These days there are about 11 buses a day taking no longer than the four trains a day used to. At the Aber end a new route into the town would be needed.
There is a new book on the line which has received favourable reviews: "Aberystwyth to Carmarthen including Newcastle Emlyn & Aberayron Branches" by Geraint Roberts, Lightmoor Press.
A while ago when I bought a train ticket from Newtown to Newport (Gwent) It said only valid by Aberystwyth. It turned out that I was supposed to use the bus to Carmarthen and then the train to Newport, so about 4 hours instead of 2 hours via Shrewsbury. After I queried it I was told it was an error. I wondered initially if the person setting up the routing hadn't heard that the ,line had closed.
