Downloaded Route Problem
Hi some time ago i downloaded and tried to install this route into Open Rails but after numerous attempts and following all the readme instructions exactly, when loading up the route the activities would not show up.I am now trying again having downloaded the route from this site but i still have the same problem after trying several times again. Can anyone help please on exactly how to install this route successfully as i must be doing something wrong.I have several routes installed into Open Rails including three mini routes which run perfectly ok why i cannot install this route as got me beat. Thanks.Peter.

Re: Downloaded Route Problem
Hi Peter,
You do not install a route into Open Rails!
You create a folder, called the root folder, into which you add the GLOBAL, ROUTES, SOUND and TRAINS folders pertaining to the route in question. The ROUTES folder may contain several routes and the TRAINS folder can contain stock and consists for those routes..
You then 'tell' Open Rails (using the Options > Content tab) where your root (NOT route!) folder is located and give it a suitable name.
If it's an MSTS route, especially if it uses an installme.bat file, you should install it as you always have done - into an MSTS installation. You can then tell Open Rails the name and location of its root folder.
Root folders can be any name, but, traditionally, they have been Train Simulator or 1MSTS or something very similar
It might help if you tell us which route it is you're having problems with.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Downloaded Route Problem
Hi Peter,
Clive has made this route and stock/acts packs very complicated to explain how to extract the appropriate folders!
It'll take me a while to fathom out how to do it clearly, so I won't be back until tomorrow (at least!). In the meantime, if anybody else would like to attempt the task, please be my guest
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Downloaded Route Problem
Hi Peter,
Well, no volunteers came forward, so here goes!!
1. Decide whether you are going to add this route to an existing MSTS/Open Rails installation, or want to create a new installation/profile.
....(a) If using an existing installation, you already know the root folder name (ie the folder containing GLOBAL, ROUTES, SOUND and TRAINS folders.
... (b) If creating a new Open Rails installation, create a new root folder wherever you want it - name it Plym-to-Penz then add the following empty folders GLOBAL, ROUTES and SOUND to it.
2. Unpack 39381_Plym_to_Penz_Route.zip
... (a) Open Plym_to_Penz_Route folder to uncover the Cornish_Main_Lines folder. This is the route folder - copy it into the ROUTES folder of the root folder of your selected installation.
3. Unpack 39390_Plym_to_Penz_Stock_and_Acts_V2.zip
...(a) Open the Plym_to_Penz_Stock_and_Acts_V2 folder
...(b) Open the Plym_to_Penz_Stock_and Acts folder
...(c) Open the Plymouth to Penzance Activities folder
...(d) Open the CML Activities folder and copy the resulting Activities, Paths, Services and Traffic folders into the Cornish_Main_Lines route folder.
...(e) Open the Plymouth to Penzance Stock folder
...(f) Copy the Trains folder into either the root folder of your existing installation or the Plym-to-Penz (root) folder of your newly created installation.
...(g) NOTE that the required stock, cabviews and sounds are listed in the UKTS DOWNLOAD HELP folder in the stock folder.
4. Install UKFS and New Roads into the root folder, Plym-to-Penz
NOTE : If using the UKFS from UKTS, use my UKFS_Install utility to add it into the root folder. of your existing installation, or the Plym-to-Penz folder.
NOTE : You don't have to call the new root folder Plym-to-Penz, you can call it whatever you like, but I thought it made it a little clearer if it had a name!
I hope I've not missed anything!!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Downloaded Route Problem
Hi Peter,
After you've created the new 'root' folder, open it in Explorer so you get a blank screen. Anywhere in that blank screen, right click, select 'New', then click on 'Folder' and you will see a new folder created, named 'New Folder' Rename it to GLOBAL.
Repeat these actions again to create folder ROUTES and then again to create folder SOUND. Please note that the folder must be named SOUND , NOT SOUNDS.
Cheers,
Ged
No, please do not copy those folders from any other installation! They must, at this stage, be empty.the only thing that i don't seem to be clear on is when you say add the empty Global Routes and Sounds folders to the new root folder i create.Do you mean these three folders from my existing MSTS root folder if not which ones do i add ?

Hi Peter,
If you follow my instructions exactly. you should be OK.
After I'd written them and before I posted them, I followed them to successfully set up the route for Open Rails.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Downloaded Route Problem
Hi Peter,
As far as I can see, yes, you will need to download all those stock items.
I can't tell you which are available from the TSSH library so, to ensure you get them all and don't have the problem of substitution, you'd be better downloading them from UKTS, while it's still with us!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Downloaded Route Problem
Hi Peter,
The shimmering tracks can be cured by running my UKTS_Fix v2.2 from UKTS_36632. It's also available from trainsim.com, TSSH and elvastower.com
