MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
Hi All.
Having heard like many others of the imminent closure of UKTRAINSUM I am rather puzzled that they still appear to be open for Business.
My Main concern Is My Premium Membership Expired a few days before there Planned closure. and they appear not to be accepting Renewals, I say this because although they are still allowing Downloads the Old fashioned Way (Takes forever and a Month).
I think because menbership expired, they are no longer accepting my Bank details, saying there not recognised.
It's only £2:50 per Month for Gods sake which Is nothing, even if they still close down In a Couple of Days It's still Money Well spent In my opinion.
Has anybody else experienced similar Problems.
Thamks
Paul.

Re: MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
Hi Paul,
I doubt if anybody's tried!! The site's on borrowed time.
My expires tomorrow! Are you saying that you've tried to extend your subscription, but it's been refused?
If so, there's nothing we can do about it.
Cheers,
Ged
EDIT : I have just successfully extended my subscription to 11 October!! So, Paul, I think the problem is at your end!!
I hope Peter's grateful that I've increased his coffers!!

Re: MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
Hi again
Just noticed that Paul's subscription had lapsed. Maybe that would be a problem trying to get a lapsed membership renewed.
TW
PS
Ged .......Ownership??? Oh dear. Too late to ask for my £2.50 back now I guess.

Hi Terry,
You could be right - I always renewed mine before it expired.

RENEWED
Hi all,
Just renewed my premium subs.which I had let slide last month after the closure announcement: as previously UKTS allowed fast downloads as normal.
I'm properly confused.
Cheers KenH.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for your post.
So it seems that it doesn't matter if the previous subscription had expired?
If so, then Paul's problem must be something different, like incorrect card details.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
Hi Ged, thanks.
Doesn't matter really, would prefer they stayed open for business but sadly, not to be!
Was certainly good value for Money. UKTS will be sadly missed.
As an addition, over the past few days I have been trawling through some of the Old Early days Route CD's salvaged from my old Stock Purchased from UKTS, 3DTrains and various other sources.
And note with some sadness, That where some of the early Routes were a bit sparse with scenery and rolling stock, In this day and age of more modern Computers with better OS's, Increased Memory, Graphics and speed etc.
There now seems to be plenty of old Routes Out their that could be extensively revamped by the excellent Route builders we have out their (beyond my scope unfortunately).
Just me ranting, food for thought maybe?
Regards
Paul.

Re: MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
Hi Paul,
Yes, modern PCs can show a lot more detail, although, unfortunately, MSTS is still stuck in 2001!
The good news is that Open Rails is much more capable but that is counteracted by a shortage of route builders.
Apologies if I've missed anybody, but the only route builders we have are Mick Clarke (systema), Martin Phillips (docmartin) and Brian Bere-Streeter (BrianB), who are, currently, pretty busy!!
There's not much chance of anybody being able to enhance the older routes (copyright permitting!) so, I think we've got to make do with what we've got, which is plenty to see me out !!
The US scene is slightly better in that they've still got 3 companies providing routes and stock, although only one (trainsimulations.net) is creating new routes.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
Hi Ged
You can add me to your list of route builders.
I am currently building Zurich to Basel. Approximately 90 km in length with more stations than I can count, plus several big marshalling yards. This gives lots of scope for running intercity trains from Switzerland, also TGV from Paris, and German trains coming down the Rhine valley. Freight can be run from anywhere in northern Europe to Italy, visiting one of the yards if desired.
Should anyone want to run British electrics then they will be more than welcome.
I am coming towards the end of the build process, just a few km of scenery to complete, followed by about 20 km of signals, mileposts, and all things track related.
This should keep me busy for several more months. I already have stage 2 and 3 planned.
Garry

Re: MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
Hi Garry,
My apologies, mate
Your route sounds interesting! Will it come with any activities?
Fortunately, there are still several European stock sites from which to download the required stock,
I also omitted the two gentlemen working on the Wessex route, I think they are Alex and Craig.
There could be others, keeping a low profile, beavering away on their own routes.
The important point is that all of you have got your hands full with your current projects so cannot even consider enhancing older routes, even if that was possible!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
Hello Gary, please let it come with one or two acts if only for people like me! LOL

Re: MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
Yeah me and Alistair is still working on Wessex Mainlines, and to be honest dont have too much left to do.
Also with the enhanced Henley route we put out, I was looking to update the routes made by the same person as I do have Proton66 permission to do so.
Has anyone looked at the Henley route if so any thoughts

I've had a few doddles up and down the Henley branch, very nice. Thank you Roger.

Re: MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
Cool thanks Roger.
It is a massive improvment on the orignal trying to keep everything UKFS track plus a few better stations and models

You can include me too - currently attempting to build the Midland Railway - Butterley for OpenRails.
Was one of the team who built the original MSTS Route about 18 years ago - it's certainly showing it's age!
Video (although slightly out of date now) is above!

Definatly! Had the nice offer of custom signals mind which I've since installed which make a vast improvement.
It'll be slow going but it will be much more true to life than the last version I hope!

Re: MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
Hi,
OK, chaps!! Apologies to all those UK route builders I missed!!
I was really trying to make the point that the few route builders we have are involved with their own projects, which can take several years to complete.
I'll now go and crawl back under my stone
Cheers,
Ged

Also look on individual content creators some of which will contain routes.

Re: MSTS CLOSURE QUESTION MARK PLEASE?
There are the options as metioned above, otherwise there is the TrainSim Safe House File Hosting site if I am not stating a reasonably well known fact... It's the same place to get most of the new rolling stock and other releases...
