Opened in stages between 1859 and 1868, the Evesham branch ran due east then north from Ashchurch junction on the main line between Gloucester and Birmingham.Total length was 33 miles with 15 intermediate stations.
"The Evesham Branch" is the fifth route to be released by Making Tracks, this time concentrating on the Ashcurch to Barnt Green branch
‘The Evesham Branch’ simulates the rural cross-country former Midland Railway route from Barnt Green to Evesham in Worcestershire, and on to Ashchurch in Gloucestershire. The route is depicted as it was in the late 1950s, a few years before closure, when the line was an important freight and local passenger route. At that time, steam was the main motive power, although diesels were just entering service, particularly the new Diesel Multiple Units. The line served many rural and small towns including Redditch (which in those days was not as large as it is now), Alcester and, of course, Evesham.
The route contains many private sidings along with small yards and rural stations, giving many opportunities for leisurely pick-up goods activities.
