OR Crashing.
Hi.
Recently OR has been crashing part way through acts, claiming the log file is being used by another process...............................
The log file is on the desktop and is not open in any other application.
Anyone know what may be causing it or know of a fix?
Thanks.
Mark.

Re: OR Crashing.
I have tried a few things to stop it happening, but in the end I had to turn off logging altogether which has fixed the problem, unfortunately I am no longer getting any logs for bug reporting.
I suspect it was the latest windows 10 update that caused it, as it was around that time it started to happen.

Hi Mark,
I think sometimes the log file gets choked with shape errors/warnings. Make sure the "Show shape warnings" is not selected (Options > Experimental).
Cheers,
Ged

Re: OR Crashing.
Thanks Ged, I'll give that a go.
Update: it has not cured it, I've switched off logging again, I got about 7 miles into the down pines express (SDJR miniroute) when it crashed.

Re: OR Crashing.
Hi Mark,
I see you're using an old version of OR (X3487). - many improvements have been made since then and the current version is X3640. I suggest you try that one before even thinking about reporting a bug!
It might also be useful if you could attach the last log file you got - zip it up first!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: OR Crashing.
Hi Ged.
I have got it to update to the latest stable version which is the one I have got, would you recommend I change that to testing or unstable?

Re: OR Crashing.
I have downloaded the latest test version and installed it into a separate folder, however it has still affected the stable version, I can run both versions now without crashing.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi Mark,
Can you attach the last log file (zipped) to a post, please? It might help find the cause

Re: OR Crashing.
Hi Ged.
I have been running OR and just got the error, so it is at the top of the list so easy to find rather than be buried in the middle of a long list of logs.
I have attached a zip file of the log.
Thanks.

Hi Mark,
Thanks.
I have seen that error mentioned before, but never had it myself. It seems to say that something else is using the log file, but how did it use it for reporting this error??!
I've tried accessing my logfile in NotePad while starting OR and it doesn't affect it, so I don't know what the reason could be, unless your anti virus has something to do with it! If you wish, I can post it on Elvastower, where it should get a quicker answer.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: OR Crashing.
Thanks Ged.
They may have a better idea of what it is.
I am still using the same security software that I've been using all along, it has never done it before,

Re: OR Crashing.
Hi Mark,
There has been one reply up to now, which seems to imply it's a Windows/other software problem rather than a particular Open Rails one.
I don't know if you'll be able to access the thread from here, but this is the link : http://www.elvastower.com/forums/index.php?/topic/29255-logfile-being-used-by-another-process/
Note that you only run the specified program at the time that OR can't access the log file, in order to get a meaningful result..
Cheers,
Ged

Re: OR Crashing.
Hi Ged.
Thanks. I downloaded the handle program. I typed in the path given but got a no handles result, it would be difficult to catch it actually happening as it is only brief.
Thanks.

Re: OR Crashing.
I had this problem> It was caused by one of the OR Updates having two new functions - Circuit Breaker Opening Order and Circuit Breaker Closing Order. The operation was aliased to two keyboard letters being allocated by default which I had already allocated to other functions. I just corrected the keyboard strokes and all was fine. Dick.

Re: OR Crashing.
Thanks Dick.
I still have all my keyboard settings set to default, I haven't assigned any, so I'm not sure what is causing mine.
