Derailing Empty Derailing

An unusual question!

Is derailing more likely to occur on a particular curve when it has a lower speed limit set than than is remains at the route's default speed limit?

Hi David.

If derailments are set to off (in MSTS options) then you won't derail on tight curves at speed. if derailments are set to on, then you will derail on tight curves at speed and any other conditions that would likely cause a derailment, I normally have mine set to "off" so haven't really tested the effectiveness of the derailment feature in MSTS.

Thanks Mark but you did not answer my question. If derailments are "on", are you more likely to derail an a curve when a low speed limit is set?

Hi David.

I have no definitive answer to that, I may test it sometime, but am busy on other projects for now, but I would say it would probably make a difference, hopefully someone else will know more about it and give you a definite answer..
