Unfortunately unless a supporter attends a show with their own equipment to display MSTS, then that's the way it is. I used to help the UKTS DIY team at local model railway shows but my laptop was poor fare when compared to their good quality hardware displaying the other sim!

At this time all we can do is promote and maintain interest in MSTS as best we can by providing help and guidance, and of course providing good quality virtual railway stock as witnessed by Andy's DEMUs.

Thanks for the heads-up peeps.. A real shame that UKTS weren't showing some of MSTS Routes, Activities and Models etc... I'm sure we all wouldn't have minded. At least with this forum and it's members we get to keep MSTS Alive and Kicking by Introducing new items. Very Happy
For me the other Sim, is too costly and too large for some machines to handle. As well as being too greedy on Hard Drive space. I tried it once and didn't like it because of these things.

Hi everyone, it is surprising that the shows I do attend how many people who stop at the display and ask about
the new Railworks on offer tell me they still have a copy of the original Simulator when told how much the
new version cost their reaction says it all.
I, for one will never leave MSTS as at least with it, I can easily play around with altering the older Activities
that don't run correctly due to my faster computer and I found it easier and cheaper to get everything to run on
it.
I also don't like the screen display and reading about how you set it up, it is beyond me and I'm only glad to
get back to the softer texturing that MSTS offers.

I think that this thread has deviated enough now and should revert to Andy's workshop activities. The "other sim" can be accessed and discussed on other sites/forums!!!!

Yes indeed and together with all the other MSTS uploads for downloading this has been a very good day for MSTS.

Let's hope we can keep it up for another week - might be able to upload a batch of Class 106s and possibly some carriage repaints!

So much for Actober eh Alec, bit of a mixture with everything!! But not that I'm complaining! Some of the Activities I've downloaded for the Tunnel route, I've never tried out and being that the screenshots look good, has enticed me to download the Route!! Will try this later on after I get on with some testing now for Justin.
But I will start that tomorrow, as my dog has Border Collie Dog; Chester has not long been home from the vet after an Op Today!! So need to spend this evening with him! Sad

Hi Andy.
I have only so far been able to run your 1066 unit which I have had to place into an activity on Thames Mersey, It replaces a two car class 156 between Stafford and Nuneaton.
What I have done is to copy all of your consists engine and wag files onto notepad, make up a scratch demu set on conbuilder replacing the 156 and then cut and paste each individal coach into the consist.
Rather fiddley, but it works.
I was not sure if I would like 1066, the verdict is I DO, especially the air pipes and 20way jumper cable conected between each coach.
Will have a play with some of the other Demus over the next few nights, got to be up at silly O clock in the morning to take the commuters from Poole at 0500 to London.
Hope Chester is recovering OK.
Cheers

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the reply and feedback! Glad you like the 1066 model! Very Happy
So do you work on the Railways then? You can PM me if you like to take this away from this thread!!...
Chester is actually in pretty good Spirit's considering! Poor bugger I can't take him out for a few days and he is doing his Nut!... He's back to the vet on Thursday, so hopefully he'll be allowed back out on a nice walk! He's used to the exercise normally with friz-bee and ball and coming out shooting with me...

Hi Andy.
Yes indeed I am a railwayman, joined BR at Eastleigh in 1972 as a Railman (Porter) became a guard in 1974,hence my interest in
DEMU's. Made redundant at Eastleigh in 1995 passenger depot closed, transfered to Bournemouth February 1995.
I never really had much to do with the Hastings units, we had most of the Hampshire sets, 1101-1110 also 1111 before it was converted for the Ashford Hastings line and 1121-1133 were allocated to Eastleigh.
Laterly we also had some Oxted thumpers dueing the late 80s early 90s.
I have now test runned all of the sets, a couple of things. unit 1035 its Buffet 60752 is not a buffet but a TSOL, I was able to substitude
60752 with a spare blue/grey buffet so thats not a problem the only other thing I do not particuarly like is the Hasings farewell headboard
on the front of DMBS 60040, Is there any way it could be removed or the ACE file altered? otherwise yes they are all superp.
Sadly though I have a problem with the Green Hastings 1001.
The "4BIG" buffet, TSOL 60529 and rear DBMS 60000 are all articulated, I:E: one long coach with two 8 wheel bogies, it looks as if the ends have somehow compacted, I tried turning the buffet but that did not work either.
Dont know if anyone else has had this problem, I am running XP Home.
Cheers
Andy

This is a Bounding box issue and I have posted over on the UKTS forum. You are making changes and also as for the BOH set you need to remove the animation file if you so wish from the .eng file...
Hope this helps.

Tested the units the other day, one problem however that it has no cabview (at least it did not display error messages), I believe it is aliased to MT: LSE, there is no mention about the cabview in the read me at all!
Also, the top of the front cab (and may be the back of the coach as well) appears to shine at night! Apart from that, the Hastings DEMU is definitely looking good.

Hi Alistair,
I have just checked the readme and it is most certainly on there at the very top!

***NOTE: THIS STOCK-PACK USES CABVIEWS AND SOUNDFILES FROM MAKING TRACKS LSE ROUTE***

I think the shine might be down to how MSTS uses it's colours? Can you supply a screenshot please?

Hi all,
In an ever increasing problem and stumbling block! Danny (Dee4141) has come across a problem with using my DEMU's within using with his new route CD.... He will need a new Cabview to be done for the Hastings DEMU's... I wonder if Justin might be interested in helping me out with this one? (As these DEMU's come with the MT Cabview)

HI Andy,
Just tried making a 12 coach set made my own as lead unit, and in shape view the bogies look as if the 8 wheeled, and coaches ends are flush with each other,When I ran the set on LSE in view 2 and 3 they were correctly spaced.

I ran from Cannon Street to Hither Green with no problems going through all sorts of crossovers and points.
A really nice looking set of trains, any chance of a 3H set now or Oxted Set

I have been working on the units for the SouthEast Steam route since we cannot use the MT cabs.

Here are the settings for the green coaches. I assume the other liveries are the same.
The main problem was an oversize bounding box at one end caused by the jumper cable and a faulty coupling section on the DMS causing bouncing on curves.

Here are the correct settings.

Hello Ian.
I am working my way through the engine and wag files that you have modified.
On the original engine files there are only one set of engine files as per below.
.......................................................................................
Size ( 2.48m 3.88m 16.6m )
comment( 420k lb is the maximum )
Mass ( 54t )
WheelRadius ( 0.53m )
InertiaTensor ( Box ( 2.48m 3.88m 16.6m ) )
Coupling (
Type ( Chain )
Spring (
Stiffness ( 1e6N/m 2e6N/m )
Damping ( 1e6N/m/s 1e6N/m/s )
Break ( 5.1e7N 5.1e7N )
r0 ( 20cm 40cm )
)
CouplingHasRigidConnection ()
Velocity ( 0.1m/s )
..........................................................................................
Yours repeats them between coupling and velocity, Is this correct and do they fit in between the last close bracket and
buffers etc.
Only I am not totally sure and do not want to mess it up.
Have already converted all SD Files.
Cheers

The double coupling is a fix for the front coupling problem.

When coupling with the front coupling the loco moves towards a vehicle but the sim fizziks are designed only for the rear coupling which would be moving away from a vehicle.
The negative value in the Velocity line of the front coupling (second entry) seems to fool the fizziks and make the front coupling work.

All this was discovered by the experts on the US trainsim site.
I don't pretend to understand it - I just know it works.

I didn't bother changing the trailer coaches as they won't normally be coupled or uncoupled.

Andy, the two "coupling" entries should be complete and separate, something like this.

Code:
   Coupling (
      Type ( Chain )
      Spring (
         Stiffness ( 1e6N/m 5e6N/m )
         Damping ( 1e6N/m/s 5e6N/m/s )
         Break ( 1e8N 1e8N )
         r0 ( 20cm 40cm )
      )
      Velocity ( 0.1m/s )
   )

   Coupling (
      Type ( Chain )
      Spring (
         Stiffness ( 1e6N/m 5e6N/m )
         Damping ( 1e6N/m/s 5e6N/m/s )
         Break ( 1e8N 1e8N )
         r0 ( 20cm 40cm )
      )
      Velocity ( -0.1m/s )
   )
Make sure that all opening and closing brackets are there!

Thanks Ian and David.
Have changed one of the green powercars, will attempt the others later.
Cheers
Andy
Update: Have now changed power car "Tunbridge Wells" However I am now having a further problem as the leading end of the first
trailer coach disapears into the trailing end of the power car!
I have a consist file made up of the spare coaches, DMBS Mountfield is leading with the second vehicle TSO_L 60529, now the leading
end of this coach has disapeared into the rear end of the DMBS but the other end of 60529 is now as it should be coupled to the next coach.
At the other end of my spare train I have the blue/grey TSO_L this is now coupled properly.
As the same has happened to the lead end of unit 1001 it looks as if there is a problem with the engine files of the power cars after they
are changed.
Hope this makes sence.
Cheers
Andy

Hi everyone,
If someone can give me the related .wag/.eng files that have these issues, I will most certainly go through them and look at doing a patch update for them.
Thanks
Andy

Hi all,
As per my previous thread, I will need to know what consists are that everyone is creating with the problematic .wag and .eng files. Also with regards to the shading, it is down to a bug in MSTS when these were created in TSM. Because the cab front was split for texturing, MSTS thinks that it is a separate part even though it was re-joined after the texturing was done.
Justin and myself have looked into ways of fixing this, but to no avail?
I wonder if Ian might know of a way of resolving this little problem?
Thanks in advance
Andy

What's the thing about shading? Must have missed it.
If you package the TSM files I'll have a look.

Use https://www.hightail.com

Hi Ian,
I have signed up to Hightail. the problem is that Hightail only allows a certain upload limit and the files that I have exceed that. Do you have a Dropbox account? If so can you PM me your details so that I can share them with you?
Thanks

Don't want to sign up to Dropbox as it's only free for 14 days.

Try http://www.sendthisfile.com or split the files and sent as two zips

Also free and will accept files up to 300mb.

Ian and all,
Dropbox seems to be the better bet as I can post larger files? Not sure what this is about the free Trial, I haven't paid up for it. Here is a download for it; https://www.dropbox.com/install2
Thanks

I use dropbox (free version) for Glas-Car stuff.

However, there is a file size limit, so I have to split the route into two to send.

So seems like Dropbox is the way forward then everyone!??!?
Going back to my previous comments, has anyone gathered a list of the problematic .wag files for the DEMU Pack? (I can't see it being the .eng files as these are used in the consists I put along with the pack)
I don't want my workshop thread going too off-track!! Wink

Hi everyone,
I have asked for (time and time again) on my Hastings DEMU sets and yet no reply. Also posted on UKTS Forum some time ago. If you can post your consist/s and .wag file issues I will look into.
Also if Ian can possibly consider Dropbox, I think this is the only solution of getting the files across to you.
Please all, help me to help you.. Wink  (A win, win situation for all)

Hi Andy.
Thats probally because I may have been the only one that has had any problems.
With one exception, They were (or at least for me) all resolved by the file modifications from Ian McMillan.
They resolved all of the issues with the trailer coach ends disapearing into the ends of the adjoining coach.
Especially the two TSOL_Ls, Green coach 60529 which I now have attached to the rear power car 60000 Hastings in
the 1001 Green Consist also at the leading end I have TSOL 60501 attached behind 60118 Tunbridge Wells.
However it is Spare Power car 60116 Mountfield that still has the next coach disapearing into its trailing end.
Below are my engine and SD files for the three green power cars:

Hope all of this makes sense to you,  The three SD files are identical, So speaking as someone that is NOT QUALIFIED, but It looked
as if the problem might have been with the engine files. Albeit on my ancient XP Home system.
I also had problems modifying the engine files though, the part between Coupling ( Type ( Chain etc and  Velocity ( -0.1m/s ) which had to be repeated, This had the effect of throwing up a "Error reading  Data Base file Line so and so"
so I did modify the top part but left the rest.

So thanks to Ian and also Stephen for the rear power car exhaust modification.
Re: your consists  Yes I hold my hand up I have made a few modifications
Unit 1001 I have replaced the green TSOL (60501) with  TSOL_L 60529 on the rear coupled inside "Hastings."
Unit 1019 I have replaced the green Buffet with the correct TFK 60715. and the only other replacement is
Unit 1035 The TSO numbered 60752 I have replaced with the un numbered Bl;ue/Grey Buffet.
everything works OK  on the six sets, Where did you get the engine sounds from? They are absolutly spot on.
I also very much like the jumper cables between each coach and if you and Justin can pull off a DEMU cab view.
then that would be excellent, OH and at some point some Hampshire and Oxted sets would be very nice.
Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,
It would be nice if you could do a patch for the Green set,the Blue Grey ones seem ok,I haven't the confidence to alter the eng\ wag files myself, there are probably a few others are the same as me.

These are Hastings Units are the best around with so much detail,it seems nit picking to complain about them,I would hope that you will not be put off doing any more DEMU's like the 3H or the Oxted unit's.Hope you and Justin can get a cab made for the Hastings Set.

Maybe you could also do some new Emu's and Southern Electric Locomotives

Thank You and Thanks to Justin for get these sets made, just about to reload LSE.

Hi Gentlemen,
May I point out that in the eng file extracts Andrew Moody posted. the Damping values should be ( 1e6N/m/s 1e6N/m/s ) and not as shown!

Ah Thanks for that Ged.
I will need to take down my Thames Mersey route first and then I will have a look at the eng files and test drive the DEMUs on the New
Forest route.
I also want to try Alecs ex GW Coaches as well.

Hi all,
I have started work on a 444 Desiro, but I am currently trying to get some side on photos.
So no whatever problems some of you are having with the DEMU's, it certainly hasn't deterred me! Wink
I plan on working with Justin on this as well as and when he has time in his busy schedule. This way working together we can hopefully start building and creating a host of new models and working together will mean we achieve this a lot quicker! Very Happy

Hi all,
I have now started work on the 444 Desiro Units. A small start on the texture file. With a load more yet to do.
I have made a start also on the TSM file on the leading coach. Currently trying to gather enough pictures and information together that I possibly can.

Hi Andy, some pics of your DEMU on SouthEast - you've noticed they've been included in activities.  I haven't touched the model at all, but Ian has fitted the KIHA cab - I'm not sure if he's tweaked the body textures or not as yet.

Thanks Danny,
A real shame we can't make this cab more realistic. But I understand the concerns. Smile
Thanks for the email Andy, I have adjusted what you have said in the texture file and now looks like this; (Also I missed out the 9th window - Now amended also)

Andy's Workshop - Page 4 444_de11

trying to get what textures I can now for the wrap-around trick as used for the roof with the colours and the front of the unit, then once I have done that and have got the front correct with the leaning I will start work on the bogies and underframe and other small details. Then onto the Internal work.

Thanks

Andy
